EACL presents its first Annual Report

From a founding idea to a European community of climate law scholars and practitioners: the Association’s first eighteen months, now documented in full.

The European Association of Climate Law has published its first Annual Report, covering the period from its founding in Berlin on 28 March 2025 to September 2026.

In just eighteen months, EACL has grown from a small founding initiative into a network of 102 members affiliated with institutions in more than 20 European countries.

The report traces this development and highlights what the Association has achieved so far, including two Annual Conferences, held in Berlin and Helsinki; the inaugural EACL Early Career Researcher Award; the launch of the EACL Climate Law Blog in March 2026; the publication of the Association’s first newsletters; and an agreement with the Carbon & Climate Law Review to publish an annual open-access special issue featuring selected contributions from EACL conferences.

The report also provides an overview of the Association’s governance and institutional development, including its founding process, Statutes, membership structure, Executive Board member and their areas of work.

The Annual Report was presented and discussed at the Association’s second General Assembly, held during the EACL’s second Annual Conference in Helsinki on 17 September 2026. Members reflected on EACL’s progress during its first eighteen months and considered priorities for the year ahead.

The Association’s next chapter will continue to be shaped by its members. Thematic Working Groups can be proposed at any time, the Climate Law Blog is open to all members, and the call for the first special issue is live.
